Date: December 11, 2009

Neighborhood Housewarming 2009 was YouthBuild Boston’s 9th annual effort to weatherize the homes of elderly and disabled, low-income Boston residents. The project helps the most vulnerable part of Boston’s population, keeping them warm and minimizing their heating expenses during winter months. This year, some 200 volunteers serviced 80 homes, insulating nearly 1,100 drafty windows and doors. Three especially lucky homeowners received a total of 39 brand new replacement windows. Additionally, two energy audits were done, and a comprehensive energy retrofit was performed on another home. Volunteers served homes in Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, Jamaica Plain, Hyde Park, and the South End.
